Here is a brief guide to some of the many great house record labels. If you would like to add to the list just email us.
Defected have always been one of the great house record labels with their fantastic " in the house " series. They release records spanning the house spectrum from soulful deep house to thumping up front floor fillers. No house DJ's record collection is complete without a good chunk of Defected classics.
Soulfuric is another record label who has been around a long time. They have two sublabels SoulFuric Deep and SoulFuric Trax, Deep generally has the more soulful and syncopated numbers while Trax is normally a bit more upbeat hands in the air type stuff
SuSu may not release as many records as some of the bigger players but does have some real blinders on the books with lots of great vocals ideal for cool summer evenings
West End have been around since the late 70s and are one of the most sampled record labels out there. They are known for producing great house music with a gospel feel and are guaranteed to make the hairs on the back of the neck stand up.
Purple Music. Another label which produces some real blinders in a similar vein to Defected. They try to only select the best and funkiest tracks so they are always worth a listen when you are vinyl shopping
Credence is a division of Parlophone. They were put together to bring a more commercial side to house music and they succeeded. In the early part of this new millennium they hit hard with hit after hit after hit and brought good house to the masses.
Jason Herd's record label J:FUNK does exactly what it says on the tin. Deeply funky music released by a guy who's initial is J.
deVICE releases some nice house tracks with a latin feel. If you like brazilian beats and drink a lot of mojitos then you will love their stuff.
Magnetic is an awesome deep house label with disjointed beats from the likes of DJ Sneak and friends. Sophisticated and special these are real growers which you don't really appreciate until you have herd them a few times then you cant live without them.
Spatula City is one of my new favourites. They are releasing more and more Jazzy Deep house numbers at the moment. They also have some great EPs in their catalogue which are all killer and no filler.
Data records are a division of the Ministry of Sound and release the less commercial records ( the better ones in my opinion ) they are hard and edgy and great to finish the night off.
Distance Records was a nice producer of french house. The label has shut down now but you can still get their tunes from most record shops. If you like the classics then check these out.
Positiva have been around for ever and still produce great house records. They used to be the name in trance and speed garage and any DJ who played in the 90s had a bag full of them. I still have a whole shelf of Positiva records I can't bear to get rid of.
Another label that has stood the test of time Subliminal has consistently produced a flurry of great tracks for many years. Upbeat and tasty with a bit of prog thrown in.
Although they bring out all kinds of house records they specialize in latin beats and tracks which are more chilled than liquid nitrogen. Great sunday music
Well again it is as you would expect ..... robodisco tunes normally have a real disco feel but with a modern housey feel kind of like if disco was performed by a robot ;-)
Southern Fried Records is Norman Cook's ( Fat boy slim ) record lable and is chock full of nutty goodness. If you wan't bouncy floor fillers then southern fried never fails. They doo tend to be on the commercial side but still verry good
Hed Kandi is another one of the greats. Releasing a broad spectrum of house music from girlie house to tough club tracks. You will no doubt seen their CDs and vinyl clad in vector babes and sunglasses. Whenever you get your hands on a test press or promo from these guys you know it wont be long untill it is the must have floor filler
