Setting up equipment.

Here is a list of things to take into consideration when setting up your equipment.

A good solid base.
When setting up your decks/CDJs make sure they are on something sturdy for a couple of reasons. Firstly the equipment is probably expensive and you would be gutted if it got knocked over. I did see 1 r'tard at a party with decks set up on an ironing board at a party and that did not end well. Secondly the record will be less likely to skip if the surface they are on stays still. Some people rest the decks on top of paving stones as the extra mass stops them from being affected by vibrations from the music.

Make sure turntables are earthed properly
If you don’t earth them properly you can get a slight humm over the top of the music or a crackling as you touch the platter. To earth them properly there are normally earthling posts on the back of the mixer. Make sure they are good and tight and keep them clean.

Make sure you use the correct inputs and outputs.
Make sure you check what inputs and outputs you use phono sockets are designed for much lower inputs then line inputs so you may damage your equipment if you were to plug a CD into it.

Use good cables
It is amazing how much difference good quality cables make to the overall sound as with any hi-fi equipment it is recommended that you spend about 10% of the cost of the equipment again on cables to get the best out of it.

Read the instructions
I know it’s boring but you will generally get much more out of your equipment if you read the instructions first. On 1210s there are lots of places where you can adjust them and I know most DJs don’t know what any of the adjustments are for.

Show it some love
Carefully dust/vacuum it regularly and oil any oily bits. Also try not to drink or eat while using it as sticky fingers can gum up the most expensive of equipment
