I have been playing for many years now and my musical taste has come full circle. I started playing at parties back in 1994 playing vocal house (badly). I then got into trance and techno and then when the age of speed garage came along I jumped on that bandwagon as I have always loved a good bass line.
Then I moved in with some guys who all went out every weekend to hard house events so I started playing that. Then inexplicably I got really into soulful house with an almost gospel -type feel to it then again started to get harder with more funky house. Recently I have discovered deep house which in my opinion is great because it has the deep bass lines from speed garage and the house vocals that make the hairs stand up on the back of your neck.

I really enjoy trawling charity shops for old vinyl as you can find some real treasure there. I think one of my best finds was salt’n’peppa Push It which is always fun to drop into a modern set and see how long it takes people to notice.
I think one of the most influential DVDs I have seen is Scratch. I remember after seeing it I spent about two months in my little studio learning to play hip hop and scratch. I still practice regularly trying to learn new techniques I can use in sets.Occasionally after a good night when it is time to get everyone out of the club/bar I will drop some old funk or soul and scratch the hell out of it and let the last few stragglers get their groove on. I would love to do a house night with live musicians. I have been to a few and they are nearly always awesome, has the guys playing live really put loads of emotion (usually joy ) into it and the whole crowd feels it. I just need to find someone who can really play a sax or bassoon.
